(KAIR)--Speed limits within Atchison county may soon be changing.
County commissioners passed a resolution during their meeting Tuesday afternoon, which addresses speed limits in certain rural parts of the county.
Commissoner Jeff Schuele explains that there are several state statutes that give the power to set speed limits within a county to the commissioners. He also says that this new resolution will update past resolutions. The commission voted 3-0 to set speed limits on 18 different roads in Atchison county. There will be a map of the roads that will carry the new speed limits posted on the county's website for the next sixty to ninety days.
The county is also considering a much needed update to their emergency radio systems. Schuele says that the commission heard a presentation from county joint communications director Mike Lanier and sheriff Jack Laurie that provided them with some of the basic plans for possibly updating the current system.
Estimates on the potential cost of implementing this new communication system should be brought before the commissioners in the next seven to fourteen days.
