St. Joseph Man in Custody for Atchison Car Burglaries and Chase

(KAIR) -- A 38-year-old St. Joseph man has been arrested in connection with a string of car burglaries and police pursuit last month in Atchison.

Police Chief Mike Wilson says authorities in Buchanan County took Gary Helton into custody  Friday.

Wilson says Helton is alleged to have broken into vehicles in four locations.

Helton is charged with four counts of vehicular burglary, three counts of felony theft, two counts of misdemeanor theft, criminal damage to property, fleeing and eluding law enforcement and several traffic charges.

He remains in the Buchanan County Jail, awaiting extradition to Atchison County.
