(KAIR) -- Atchison County will take over maintenance of one of the more traveled roads in the county.
The County Commission on Monday voted to take over maintenance of two stretches of Phillips Road just west and southwest of Atchison that was maintained by Shannon and Mount Pleasant townships.
That came after representatives of the townships came to the meeting and said that they didn't have the equipment or funding to properly maintain it.
Several at the meeting said that the road has numerous deep potholes.
The road leads to Warnock Lake, which is home to the annual Lakefest concert July 19th.

In other business, Commissioners held a public hearing for the remaining solid waste appeals.
Bodenhausen said only one of the entities appeared and said Special Projects Manager Chase Brunick will make contact with the remaining entities that letters were sent to to make sure if they still wanted to appeal the reduced rate passed by County Commissioners last winter.
Bodenhausen says some of the entities with larger fees have scheduled special meetings into July for appeal consideration.
Commissioner also approved a purchase of a 2014 Ford Escape from Foster Ford in Holton as a new county multi-use vehicle.
Bodenhausen says the vehicle was budgeted for 2013 and said they chose Foster from the four bids received since they were the only bidder that offered a 2014 vehicle.
