(KLZA) The Falls City Council tabled action on a request from the owners of Tri State Truck and Tractor for an access road off of Highway 73 when they met Monday evening. While the Council seemed to be in favor of the action, they had a few questions. City Administrator Gary Jorn told the Council it appears the State will allow the company access off of Highway 73. Jorn went on to explain the request is to use just a small portion of city owned property
The access road would be south of the aquatic park which raised questions about if the intent is to hard surface the road or have a gravel road, and if the city would be required to move some shrubs on the south side of the aquatic park if the road goes in.
The City is expected to revisit the request at their meeting October 21st.
In other business Council members approved a request for the REGA Engineering Group to provide approximately $7,000 worth of engineering services for extending utilities west of the Wilderness Falls Housing development. Plans are to extend utilities to five lots west of the current housing units so single homes could be constructed. Council members denied a request from the Falls City School Distirct to remove a sidewalk on the north side of 9th and Pacific Street. Pat Kraft who lives in the area spoke out against the request noting it is the only place children in the area have a sidewalk to use.
The Council approved on first reading an ordinance allowing parking of detached trailers and dumpsters on city streets when projects are being completed. A request for a bonfire October 12th for the Falls City High School Homecoming festivities was approved and what is already the 11th request to rent Prichard Auditorium for an event in 2014 and allow alcohol to be served was approved.
Final approval was also given to vacating Appleoff Avenue between 14th & 16th Street and to vacate 16th Street from the west side of Appleoff Street to the West side of Appleoff Avenue was given.
