(KTNC) - The Falls City Library has received a donation that will benefit those with some form of visual impairment.
Deb and Darlene Halterman, and their family, donated a machine called a Merlin L-C-D to the Library. The Merlin L-C-D is a full color auto-focus video magnifier system. It enables individuals with low vision to read books, newspapers and magazines, view photos, read mail, and write checks. It also has color contrast options for optimum visibility.
The Merlin L-C-D is on display in the Library lobby. Visually impaired patrons can visit the Library for a demonstration of how to use the machine.
The Library has other tools for visually impaired individuals. That includes an “Easy Reading Computer” that can enlarge the print on a website or document. A scanner connected to the computer can scan a document and let the computer read it to you.
Other features include the ability to take dictation, voice command, a screen magnifier, and keystrokes to replace a mouse.
