Falls City Library Hosts Open House
04/12/2012

The Falls City Library and Arts Center hosted an open house Wednesday evening in honor of National Library Week, and to celebrate the Library’s five-year anniversary in its “new” building at 1400 Stone Street.

Library Board members served cake, coffee, and punch to visitors who came into the Library between 5:00 and 7:00 Wednesday evening.  Hope Schawang is the Library Director.  (play audio  :24)

The Library is a good place to go if you want to find something to read, but Schawang says they like to think they are about more than just books.  And she says they are looking for ways to expand the number of people who can use the library without paying an additional fee.  (play audio  :46)

Schawang says the library tries to be a welcoming place for all people – and they’ve signed up more than two thousand new patrons since they moved to the new building.  (play audio  :44)

The Falls City Library is also the arts center for the community, with the Stalder Gallery hosting various shows throughout the year.  A new exhibit opened in the gallery Tuesday.  The Sheldon Statewide Exhibit, titled “Commemorations” will be at the gallery for the next five weeks.
