(KAIR) -- Two concerts will be coming to Benedictine College over the next several days.
The Atchison-Benedictine Orchestra will present a concert Sunday afternoon at three in the O’Malley-McAllister Auditorium.
The concert, “I Could Have Danced all Night”, will feature dance works by Dvorak and Bartok. Also featured will be two of the Hungarian Dances by Brahms, and “Emperor Waltz” and “Thunder and Lightening Polka” by Strauss.
The program concludes with “I Could Have Danced All Night” and other highlights from the Lerner and Loewe musical My Fair Lady. The orchestra is under the direction of Matthew Shepard.
Then, the opera returns to Benedictine when students from the Department of Music will present the Opera Workshop program on Tuesday evening at 7:30 in O’Malley-McAllister Auditorium.
Scenes will be presented from various operas from Mozart, Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdinck, Pirates of Penzeance by Sullivan, and Giulio Cesare by Händel.
The program will conclude with Duetto Buffo di Due Gatti, which is not from an opera, but is a humorous parlor duet written by Rossini that is not only dramatic, but showcases the importance and power of a fine (and good humored) collaborative pianist.
Lance Crane is the pianist for the evening, and the production is directed by Andrea Garritano and Scott Wichael.
