(KLZA)-- Plans are being finalized for building a Dollar General Store in Pawnee City. Tyler Oliver with Colby Capital Development Company met via Skype, with the City Council in September to present and discuss plans for the store.
The site of the business will be along 17th Street between E Street and F Street on the east side of Highway 50. Oliver asked if the City would help with the cost of widening 17th Street, which is only a 16-foot driving width. It was explained the City had not budgeted anything for such a project. Dollar General is going pay for the widening of the street to a 32-foot driving width.
Currently required permits are being sought by the company and plans are to break ground on the project October 15th. If the winter weather cooperates the store opening is tentatively planned for May 2, 2016.
City Clerk Tammy Stephens says the property was purchased from a private individual and zoned for a retail store. The new store should help boost the Pawnee City sales tax funds.
