(KLZA)-- Following a public hearing Monday night drawing no public comment, City Council members in Falls City approved budget for Fiscal Year 2015-16 with a property tax requirement of $687,004 which is approximately $16,000 more than last year. The property tax levy will remain the same at 45-cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
The city valuation was just over $2-million higher than last year. The budget includes a 3-percent across-the-board increase in expenses. Wages increased 2.5-percent with health insurance costs remaining the same.
The budget calls for general fund expenses of $45,000 for a new police patrol unit; $5,000 in improvements at Stanton Lake Park; $9,500 in repairs at Prichard Auditorium and $9,500 in computer and software upgrades at the Falls City Library and Arts Center.
City Administrator Gary Jorn noted that it is important to continue looking for ways to grow our housing stock in Falls City. He estimated 6-10 houses have been demolished this year leaving bare lots.
