(KLZA)-- April 17th & 18th are the dates for the City Wide Cleanup events in Falls City. During Monday nights City Council meeting, representatives of the Community Cleanup Committee met with the Council to promote their ideas for future projects.
Cindy Santo discussed an idea to promote improvements in the future, which included advertising messages encouraging recycling and composting which could help reduce your garbage by 25 percent. It would also note the toxicity of burning trash.
Santo said the Hope Schawang has volunteered to write an application for grant funds to help with the cost of getting the word out. Grants of up to $3,000 are available. Some matching funds form the city would be required. Another proposal was to add more recycling containers for the public to use around the community. The committee suggested recycling receptacles could be put in the downtown area, in the parks, at the ball fields and at the courthouse.
Santo outlined some five-year goals the committee has come up with. Those goals include educating children on the importance of taking care of the earth.
A number of events to allow Falls City residents to cleanup and clean out will be held as part of the City Wide Cleanup event later this month.
