(KLZA)-- The Falls City, City Council approved the lowest of two bids received on each of two asphalt overlay projects when they met Monday night.
Bids were awarded to Herzog Contracting of St. Joseph to overlay Barada Street from 16th to 28th Street at a cost of $188,650. The bid to overlay the parking lot immediately east of Prichard Auditorium between Barada and Chase Streets was awarded at a cost of $75,000. The work is to be done this summer. A three inch overlay will be put down.
The only other bids were submitted by Constructors Inc. of Lincoln with bids of $268,881 for the Barada Street Project and $85,534 for the parking lot project.
Kendell Comstock with BCOM Solutions of Auburn presented a proposal to build a customized website for the City of Falls City, EDGE and the Falls City Chamber / Main Street program.
The initial cost to be split between the entities would be $7,125 for the design and branding with options for updates and changes, analytical reports and an annual site cleanup ranging from $3,600 annually to $7,164 annually. Web hosting would be $375 annually. No action was taken on the proposal Monday night.
Mayor Jerry Oliver also congratulated the Falls City Sacred Heart Girls Basketball team on winning the Class D-2 state championship and the boys basketball teams from Falls City and Sacred Heart on outstanding seasons, with both qualifying for the State Tournament.
Falls City Council members also approved an ordinance on first reading to vacate Willow Lane between 19th and 21st Street at the request of John Steinman. A proclamation was approved designating April 6th through 10th as Public Transit Week.
