(KLZA)-- The Falls City Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve a recommendation from the Falls City Board of Public Works to add an additional generator at the Power Plant. The cost is estimated at $11-million.
Earlier this month the Council tabled action following a presentation by a consulting firm recommending a new generator be put in at the current power plant. Currently the City relies on two generators to power utility customers when the power from outside sources is interrupted. The two generators are not able to supply enough power at peak operating times to meet the demands of customers.
Councilman Kirby Robidoux asked if there would be grants available to help with the cost but it does not appear that would be an option.
City Administrator Gary Jorn says the next step is to hire an engineer to study how to put the generator in the power plant.
In other business the Council approved on final reading ordinances updating the Comprehensive Development Plan, subdivision regulations and zoning regulations.
Approval was given to the Falls City Volunteer Fire Department recommendation to appoint Ken Simpson as Fire Chief, Jon McQueen as First Assistant Chief and Jim Liming as Second Assistant Chief.
The council also approved a request to hire a fill-time laborer for the Street Department. Jorn explained the Street Department has worked with only three employee’s for about five years and that departments sharing personnel to accomplish projects is not working. A fourth position was built into the new city budget for the current fiscal year.
Council members Steve Scholl and Mike Dougherty were absent from the Monday night meeting.
