Falls City Council Approves ATV Street Use and Discusses Parking Restrictions
(KLZA)-- City Council members gave final approval to an ordinance to allow all-terrain and utility type vehicles to be operated on city streets in Falls City when they met Monday night.
The licensing stickers are not yet available so the first day the machines can be legally licensed and used on city streets is August 5th. The Council also approved a resolution to set a waiver schedule for violations of the all-terrain and utility type vehicles ordinance.
Mark Meyer who lives in the 1900 block of Nemaha Avenue requested the Council make one side of East 19th and East 18th Streets and one side of Nemaha Avenue in the 700 and 800 blocks in the area of the Sacred Heart School no-parking zones. Meyer noted concerns about emergency vehicles being able to get through the area when cars are parked on both sides of these streets, which usually occur during activities at the Sacred Heart School
It is expected additional activities at the school with the building of a new events center could lead to more parking issues. Sacred Heart Principal Doug Goltz said the school would benefit from the parking restrictions. How far to extend the parking restrictions was discussed. Councilman Jerry Oliver made the motion to table the topic until further information can be gathered.
The Council also voted 7-1 to give favorable comment to a special designated liquor license for a beer garden August 22nd as part of the Cobblestone Festival requested by Eric Froeschl of the Would Eye Bar.
Council member Judy Murphy cast the lone nay vote.
