(KTNC) -- A longtime member of the Falls City Police Department is the new Chief of Police.
The Falls City Council approved a recommendation on Monday to name Assistant Chief Duane Armbruster as Chief, replacing John Caverzagie, who resigned in December.
Armbruster has been with the Falls City Police Department for 32 years. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1988 and has been the Assistant Chief since 1998.
The Police and Fire Employment Selection Board unanimously recommended Armbruster for the position. Mayor Tim Hersh made the appointment official.
Four people applied for the position and two were interviewed - Armbruster and Mike Oliver of Beatrice. Mayor Hersh said both were well-qualified for the position.
Armbruster takes over a department with seven full-time officers, including the Chief. An Assistant Chief will be appointed later.
The City Council also approved a motion to set the Police Chief’s salary at $62,000, with the same benefits as previously approved for the Communications Workers of America.
