(KTNC) -- An exhibit featuring works by a well-known Falls City artist will open at the Stalder Gallery on Friday.
The exhibit, the “100th Year of the Ironing Girl by Alice Cleaver” opens with a gallery talk at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
Alice Cleaver was born in Falls City in 1878. She studied art at the University of Nebraska, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She then traveled to Arizona and New Mexico to paint the lifestyle of the Pueblo Indians, and lived in Paris briefly before returning to Falls City in 1914.
Former Falls City resident and Alice Cleaver enthusiast John Kriessler will give the presentation Friday. Kriessler, who now lives near Girard, Kansas, says he became interested in Alice Cleaver paintings when he lived in Falls City in the late 1960s.
The exhibit will feature works of Alice Cleaver from the Library’s permanent collection. Kriessler says he'll talk about some Alice Cleaver artwork and photos people may not be familiar with.
The exhibit will be at the Stalder Gallery until February 12. Friday’s gallery talk begins at 7:00 p.m. and the gallery doors will open at 6:00 p.m.
