(KTNC) - The City of Falls City is seeking to have the speed limit reduced on Highway 73 north of town.
The City Council approved a motion Monday night to have City Clerk Gary Jorn draft a letter to the Department of Roads, requesting the speed limit be reduced to 45 miles-per-hour from the north city limit at the intersection of Highway 73 and Old Highway 73.
First Ward Councilman Jerry Oliver said he’s received several calls from people requesting the speed limit be reduced in that area. Oliver has contacted Department of Roads Engineer Dan Waddle about the matter. According to Waddle, speed limits must be based on an engineering and traffic study. The DOR completed a speed zone review in that area in 2011.
The Department of Roads is completing a study to determine whether to remove three traffic signals along Harlan Street through Falls City. That three-month study is to be complete this week.
In other business Monday, the City Council approved the final reading of an ordinance regulating the parking of trailers and dumpsters on city streets.
