(KAIR) -- An Atchison High School teacher will join an elite list Saturday as she becomes part of the latest class to join the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame.
Kathy Hines is part of a class of eight in the 2013 class and part of 350 that have been inducted since the Hall’s inception in 1977 in Dodge City.

She will join Dr. Rod Heffley, who was the first from USD 409 to be inducted into the Hall last year.
Hines, who has been in education for 42 years, is very humbled when it comes to educating students.

Hines taught physical education for 34 years before becoming the head of the Freshman Transition program, which orients first-year students to Atchison High School to their surrounds.
During the second semester, she teaches Freshman Focus, which focuses on those freshmen struggling after their first semester in high school.
In 2008, Hines completed a Master of Arts in School Leadership from Benedictine College with the hopes to transition into an administrative role; however, she put those plans on hold, citing the joy of working with the incoming freshmen and seeing them succeed.
