05/16/2013

(KAIR) -- Two area high school seniors have been awarded the annual Joseph M. Carrigan Memorial Scholarship.

Jared Hoffman and Sam Nolte will each receive 750 dollars to go to their college education.

The scholarship, named after the late Atchison business owner Joe Carrigan, goes to students based on their involvement in school, grades, citizenship, involvement in the community and an essay on credit unions.

Hoffman, son of Jeff and Tana Hoffman of Effingham, plans to attend Allen County Community College.

Nolte, son of Robert and Traci Nolte of Atchison, plans to attend Drake University.

Each year, the Joe Carrigan Golf Tournament is held to fund the scholarship.

This year, the tournament will be held June 15th at Bellevue Country Club in Atchison.
