(KTNC) - An event at the Falls City Library and Arts Center Friday will bring local history and art together.
The event will include an expedition to locate the “falls” that gave Falls City its name. Library Director Hope Schawang says the evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the unveiling of a historic painting that’s been restored. (play audio :44)
The painting depicts the falls on the Nemaha River. Schawang says they hope to use the event as a jumping off point to discover more about local history. (play audio :45)
Following the discussion of art and history, people are invited to join in a trip to the Sandrock farm south of Falls City to tour the field where the falls was once located. Dave and Nancy Klaus, and Delmar and Deb Gruber will lead the tour, which Schawang says includes a walk of about an-eighth of a mile.
Schawang says other paintings in the permanent collection of the Library and Community Foundation need to be restored or reframed, and are available for “adoption.”
