( KAIR )--Beginning September 17th, the Jefferson County Treasurer’s office will be open new hours--from 8 to 4 Monday through Friday.
County Treasurer Mary Underwood says the new hours are due to over-time and budget restraints created by the state‘s new motor vehicle system.
Underwood told county commissioners Monday that to date she’s had 400 hours of overtime expenses directly attributable to managing the new system.
For example, she said processing a new title can now take up to an hour and if the customer comes in late in the day the time necessary to process the transaction creates overtime for several employees
In order to reduce the overtime, she asked commissioners to allow her to the close the office to the public at 4 p.m. Underwood said other counties have chosen this same option to reduce overtime.
Commissioners agreed to the request.
