(KAIR) -- Atchison County Commissioners kicked off their budget season with their first budget workshop Wednesday.
The Commissioners heard proposals from the Appraiser's and Register of Deeds offices.
Commission Chairman Jeff Schuele says the Appraiser Jim Lampe has initially proposed a budget with a slight decrease from the previous year.

Commissioners also met with new Register of Deeds Shelley Campbell, who requested in increase in her budget.
Schuele says that's due to plans to upgrade technology in the department.

Schuele says department heads will be meeting with Commissioners one to three times in total from now until the end of July to negotiate final allocations.
He also says budget workshops will be conducted during their Wednesday sessions through the end of June, when the Commission format will change to a work session or budget workshop only during the morning and a regular meeting in the afternoons on Tuesday's only through the month of July.
The Commission's goal is to have the budget finished in early August, well ahead of the state mandated August 15th deadline, which would make it the fastest completion date to adopt an annual budget in county history.
