Pinktoberfest Approved for Atchison
06/05/2012

One of the viaducts in the city of Atchison will be lined with bras once again this fall in an effort to promote breast cancer awareness.

After the public forum comment at Monday’s Atchison City Commission meeting, Commissioner Jack Bower moved to approve to have the display for Pinktoberfest.

It then received unanimous approval from the Commissioners.

It sparked controversy last October after some individuals expressed offense to the display in a public forum.

However, Hailey Diebolt, who asked for support for this year from the commission Monday, said the display motivated women.

Commissioners also decided to put an advisory yellow 20 mile per hour sign at the intersection of Harper and Arrowhead Drive after concern arose to the city by residents in that area.

They also approved to apply haydite and chip and seal to River Road to not exceed 50 thousand 220 dollars.

Part of the funding will be provided by FEMA due to damage caused by the 2011 flood.

Commissioners also unanimously approved the initial steps to renovate parts of the Heritage Conference Center.

The initial cost for design will not exceed 95 hundred dollars initially; however, if it’s decided to replace the HVAC system, it could cost nearly seven figures.
