Sacred Heart Boys Win District Title
The Falls City Sacred Heart Boys’ Basketball Team earned a trip to the State Basketball Tournament with a solid 59-39 win over Hampton in the D2 District 1 Final Tuesday night at Tri-County High School.
The Irish quickly turned a nine-point halftime advantage into a 16 point lead early in the third quarter, and the Hawks never got closer than 12 points the rest of the night. Brady Cromer and Matt Goltz led Sacred Heart with 13 points each, Clay Finck had 10, and David Bangert 9 points, as eight Irish players scored at least two points.
Sacred Heart got off to a slow start, as Hampton scored the first four point of the game. Sacred Heart took a one point lead after one quarter, and Irish head coach Doug Goltz says, they were able to turn things around behind a solid defensive effort. He comments on the win. (play audio :24)
Tuesday’s win was the third consecutive double-digit win for Sacred Heart in the post-season. Heading to Lincoln next week, Goltz says the Irish know what to expect despite being a relatively young team with only one senior on the roster. (play audio :29)
Sacred Heart will take a 16-8 record into the State Tournament, beginning Thursday, March 8th in Lincoln.
