Senior Sara Landis scored 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the Class D2 Sub-District #1 Final at Norris Middle School Thursday night at 8th ranked Falls City Sacred Heart knocked off 6th rated Sterling 40 - 38 in overtime.
The Irish led at the end of each of the first three quarters but Sterling tied the game at 40-40 at the end of regulation. Sterling was led by junior guard Jenna Nieveen who scored 16 points including six on a pair of three point baskets in the overtime. Sterling's 6'3" sophomore Jordan Lempka scored 13 points and aded a dozen rebounds. The Jets are now 22-4 on the season and must wait to see if they earn a wild-card bert to the state tournament.
Sacred Heart scored the first five points in the extra period and held on for their 18th win of the season. The Irish now play Hampton in the District Final on Friday night, February 24th at Syracuse at 7 p-m. The winner advances to the D2 Girls State Tournament the begins March 1st.
