Photography is not his full-time profession, but it’s his full-time passion. That passion has taken Kenny Bahr from Alaska to New Mexico, and many places in between, over the last 25 years. Bahr’s wildlife photos have appeared in numerous publications and calendars, and they are now the focus of an exhibit at the Stalder Gallery in Falls City.
Bahr spoke about his passion during a gallery talk Friday evening. He explained how he became interested in photography. (play audio :48)
The exhibit includes photographs of animals from polar bears and grizzly bears to birds and butterflies. While Bahr has been to the far reaches of the continent, he says this area of the Missouri River valley is one of the best areas he’s found for photographing birds, thanks in no small part to Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge. (play audio :39)
All of Bahr’s photography has been done on the North American continent, which he says provides an endless array of subject material. Two attributes needed he says that are needed to be a successful wildlife photographer are patience and persistence. (play audio :14)
The Kenny Bahr exhibit will remain at the Stalder Gallery in the Falls City Library and Arts Center until February 17th. After that, the annual GFWC Student Art Contest and Exhibit will be in the gallery from February 22nd through March 10th.
