(MSC News)--Voters in the Mound City R-2 School District approved a nearly $2.9 million bond issue by a wide margin Tuesday.
Unofficial results show the measure was approved with more than 65-percent support. The measure will allow the Mound City School District to increase its operating tax levy by 42-cents, to $4.15 per $100 of assessed valuation through tax year 2033.
The increased levy will be used to pay for various improvements to the school. Those include energy efficiency improvements – including air conditioning the entire school – handicap accessibility improvements, and safety and security measures. The district will also build and furnish a new multi-purpose room and remodel the High School Science Room.
Another measure in Holt County saw Forest City voters overwhelmingly approve a 30-cent General Fund levy for four years to fund police in the town.
In Atchison County Missouri, voters approved a road rock levy. Approval allows the county to impose a tax up to one dollar on agricultural or horticultural property for ten years, with proceeds of the tax to go into the Special Road Rock Fund.
In one contested primary in Atchison County, Diana Dikkut won the Democratic nomination for Recorder of Deeds and will face Republican Eliza Beasing in the general election.
U.S. Rep. Sam Graves of Tarkio has defeated three challengers in a Republican primary as he seeks an eighth term.
Graves won the primary Tuesday in the northern Missouri 6th Congressional District. Voters in far northwest Missouri voted decisively for Graves. He picked up nearly 75-percent of the votes in Holt County and more than 72-percent in Atchison County.
Graves had collected nearly $1 million for his re-election campaign and received more than 80 percent of the votes in his two most recent primaries.
Graves will face W.A. “Bill” Hedge in the general election. Hedge, a pastor from St. Joseph, defeated Gary Crose of Gladstone and Edward Fields of Kansas City in the Democratic primary.
Hedge ran for the office once before, losing the 2012 primary to Kyle Yarber.
