Falls City Police to Monitor Traffic in Residential Area
09/18/2013

(KTNC) - The Falls City Police Department will monitor traffic in the area of 26th and Schoenheit Street, after receiving a request to speed limit and “Children at Play” signs in the area.
Brandon and Stacy Coupe asked the city to place the signs in their neighborhood.  They say several children live in the area and they are afraid someone is going to get hit.
The City Council discussed the request Monday night and decided to have the Police Department monitor the area for 30 days.  Fourth Ward Councilman Don Ferguson questioned the need for more signs.
City Administrator Gary Jorn said this is the first formal request for such signage he’s seen in six years.
The council also discussed regulation of parking trailers in residential areas.  Jorn said the current ordinance is somewhat loosely written and the city is attempting to tighten the regulations as it prepares a new comprehensive plan.
Jorn said it would take three or four months to approve the new regulations, and they would go through the Planning and Zoning Commission before coming before the council.
Police Chief John Caverzagie said they’ve received four or five complaints about trailers parked on city streets this year and issued one citation.
In other business, the council approved the bid from Vessco Incorporated to build an addition at the Power Plant to house the chlorine and fluoride.  Vessco’s bid of just under $63,000 was about $3,900 more than a bid from M-C Squared, but Utility Superintendent Alan Romine said the Board of Public Works recommended going with the higher bid.
Romine said the new building is necessary because the chlorine and fluoride cannot be stored in the same room as the pumps.
Also Monday, the Council approved the second reading of an ordinance to vacate Appleoff Avenue between 14th and 16th Street and 16th Street from the west side of Appleoff Street to the west side of Appleoff Avenue.
And they approved a request to add Devin Moore, Bret FiField and Zachary Swift to the Falls City Volunteer Fire Department.
