(KAIR) -- Part of the former U.S. Army Storage Facility in Atchison has been sold to a new organization.
The MO-KAN Underground Business Center has announced that the “West Cave,” which is largely storage and undeveloped property, has been sold to The Vivos Group.
The group is largely based on providing places of protection shelter to investors in preparation of a catastrophic event.
According to their web site, www.terravivos.com, the underground complex encompasses over two million square feet of existing shelter area.
Now being outfitted, the Vivos Survival Shelter & Resort will accommodate approximately 5,000 people for a minimum of one year of autonomous survival, without the need to return to the surface.
The space will eventually become it's own town, with areas planned for entertainment, worship, recreation, medical care and classrooms.
The remaining "East Cave" and above ground structures will continue to be owned by MO-KAN Underground.
The remaining available square footage is around 500,000 usable square feet.
Owner Coby Cullins says they remain in talks with several area companies and expect to have their first tenants beginning on July 1st.
They have also opened up the underground for boat, RV and vehicle storage.
The storage is now operating under the name "Citadel Caverns,” with many spots remaining for lease.
