(KAIR) -- A record number of students received their diplomas Saturday as part of Benedictine College’s Commencement ceremony.
Four-hundred-five students graduated, and roughly 360 walked the aisle to get their diplomas.
Commencement speaker, Wisconsin Congressman and former vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan, in his nearly 22 minute address to graduates at Ralph Nolan Gymnasium in Atchison stressed faith, as well as personal freedom.

Prior to the commencement and Ryan’s speech, around 30 protestors gathered outside.
The group, in large part representing the non-profit federal committee moveon.org, believed Ryan’s politics didn’t match the Benedictine’s traditional values.
