Downed Power Line Causes Outages, Reroutes
05/10/2013

(KAIR) -- A downed power line across U.S. 73 highway just south of Atchison Thursday evening led to traffic re-routes and power outages.

According to Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie, it happened around 6:30 when an asphalt truck struck a line causing it to land on U.S. 73 highway, causing traffic re-reroutes from 73 to Sherman Road for southbound traffic and from U.S. 73 to 262nd Road for northbound traffic.

Laurie says Hamm’s quarry did a large portion of traffic control with pilot vehicles.

Westar Energy Spokesman Nick Bundy said 165 customers in the area were without power until 9:20 last night.
