(KAIR) -- Jefferson County Commissioners have made an offer for the position of county counselor.
After weeks of interviews, Commissioners Monday voted two to one to offer the contract to Josh Ney with Commissioner Richard Malm voting nay.
Malm then moved that 20 thousand be removed from the 2013 Counselor’s budget used to offset the increased cost of health insurance for the county which was unanimously approved.
If Ney accepts the position, he will replace outgoing Counselor Jan Hayes.
Commissioners also voted unanimously, as agreed to in his contract, to raise Planning and Zoning Administrator Bill Noll’s salary to the same base amount as the 911 Director, Auxiliary Services Director, Register of Deeds, County Treasurer and County Clerk’s.
Commissioners approved the appointments of Tim Bailey and Matt Scherer to the Planning Commission with Bailey’s term to expire in January 2016 and Scherer’s December 2015.
State Senator Marci Francisco met with the board to discuss legislative issues that may impact the county for the upcoming session.
Among those were creating legislation on “trade fixtures,” and the impact of KanCare.
