Crews Prepare for Winter Weather
12/31/2012

(KAIR) -- Crews in Atchison and Atchison County are preparing for the next round of winter weather.

As of early this morning, the National Weather Service projects two to four inches of snow today and into New Year’s Day.

Atchison City Manager Trey Cocking says their crews began prep work at 7:30 this morning by spreading salt and sand across roads and viaducts.

Cocking says their quantity of materials is higher than normal due to the mild conditions in 2012.

Atchison County Road and Bridge Supervisor Matt Dorssom says crews began their treatment once snow accumulated and will begin plowing roads once one to two inches build up.

Dorssom says crews usually spread 50 tons of salt on county roads during a regular storm.
