(KAIR) -- While no area Atchison County corn shuckers won a national title Sunday in Central City, Nebraska, many came home with high places.
In the Under 14 Boys division, Nathan Penning placed second and Jerod Wagner finished third.
For Girls ages 15 through 20, Jackie Penning finished second.
For the Under 14 Girls division, Averie Penning finished fourth.
In the 21 to 49 men’s group, Ray Penning finished third.
For the division 50 and over for the men, Bob Penning finished seventh and John Scherer eighth.
For the 50 and over women’s division, Donna Fairbanks finished seventh and Kathy Penning 10th.
After the conclusion of the nationals, all ages were eligible to participate in an invitational contest.
There were 18 entries, including four past national champions.
Ray Penning was able to win the all ages invitational.
Former National Champion shucker Bob Staley called the performances by the Atchison County group “excellent.”
