(KAIR) -- Ambulance calls are up in Jefferson County.
In Monday’s regular meeting of the Jefferson County Commissioners, Ambulance Director James Tweed reported that call volume is up 10 percent this year so far from 2011 and 17 percent from 2010.
Tweed says transports are up nine-point-five percent from 2011 and that around 35 percent off calls made do no result in a transport of a patient.
Two full-time crews began running in the county on July 1st and Tweed says response time has improved significantly since.
Also, the new ambulance substation in Meriden is nearing completion and other crew will begin being dispatched from there once it’s opened.
In other business, Commissioners will meet in a special session at 11 to begin work on the 2013 county budget.
