AE Bridge Closer to Being Tied Together
05/31/2012

The Amelia Earhart Bridge is one step closer to meeting in the middle entirely.

KDOT officials hope to tie the bottom sections of the arch-span section of the new bridge together within the next two days.

KDOT Spokesperson Kim Qualls explains.

The old bridge will remain open for this next step of the project.

Qualls says once that’s complete, they can begin tying the top together, which is tentatively scheduled for mid-June.

After that is complete, concrete can be poured on the bridge deck.

Traffic is tentatively scheduled to be able to travel on the new bridge in September.

The old bridge will be closed at that point, scheduled for deconstruction in 2013.
