Six area schools competed in the Atchison Invitational track meet, which featured 11 total schools. Holton coming out with the coming out with the best performance overall combined performances of both their girls and boys teams, as the girls placed second and the boys third overall as teams.
On the boys side of things it was the Hiawatha Red Hawks who had the best finish as a team of the local area schools finishing second as a team and tallying 13 top three finishers on the day. Holton Wildcats notched a third place team finish only two and half points behind Hiawatha. Other local team finishes were Atchison in fourth, ACCHS in eighth, Maur Hill Mount Academy tenth and Immaculata eleventh.
Six individuals from the local schools took home two top three finishes on the day with three of them winning both events. Hiawatha's, Denzel Chilcoat won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while Jaxon Wright of Holton won the 100-yard dash and the 300 meter dash. In the longer distance running is was Cale Heinger of Hiawatha winning both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. The other three individuals that took home two top three finishes were: Ryan Haefke of Holton (1st in triple jump and 2nd in 400 meter run), Cameron Karns of Holton (2nd in both the triple jump and 100-yard dash) and Chris Babel of Hiawatha (3rd in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs). Two other area individuals won an event, also at the track meet, those being Blake Dykstra of Atchison who won the 800 meter run and Trent Joice of ACCHS who won the javelin throw.
For the girls it was Holton finishing the highest of all the local area team particapating as they notched a second place finish. ACCHS Tigers were the next highest girl’s team of the local schools in the standings with a fourth place finish. Other local team finishes were Hiawatha in fifth, Atchison in sixth, Maur Hill Mount Academy in tenth and Immaculata eleventh.
Four area athletes finished the day with two top three finishes, two Holton Wildcats, one Atchison Redman and an ACCHS Tiger. Connor Strader of Holton took home two-second places in the 400 and 800 meter runs. While her teammate Jayna Smith won the triple jump and took third in the 800 meter run. ACCHS, Haley Reiff took home a pair of second places in both the discus and javelin throw's. It was a pair of third place finishes for Atchison's, Harleigh Boldridge in the shot put and javelin throw. Four other girls won an event on the day they included: Mady Shipley of Atchison winning the pole vault, Rachell Harman of Holton winning the 3200 meter run, Kaliee Hocker of Hiawatha winning the javelin throw and Brianna Schmitz of Hiawatha winning the high jump crown.
