(KLZA)-- The Auburn City Council has spent portions of several recent meetings discussing a request for funds toward new lights at the American Legion Baseball Field in Auburn. The field is owned by the Nemaha County Fair Board.
Recently a meeting was held with several entities involved to review the situation. One problem is safety, the wooden poles the lights are sitting on, are no longer safe to climb to replace bulbs.
The Nemaha County Fair Board owns the property where the ballpark is. They have agreed to lease the ballpark to another entity to go after grants for lights.
After much discussion during the past several Council meetings, the Council voted last week to provide $80,000 toward the project. It is hoped that some fundraising projects and grants will pay for the rest of the cost of new lights.
The estimate for the new lights is $160,000 - $175,000.
