Peru, Neb.) Peru State College today announced that Michael Henrichs of Auburn has been named a 2015 Boxley Scholar.
The distinction includes a scholarship covering full tuition, fees and books for Peru State’s entire Master of Science in Education degree, a 19-month online cohort program. The online cohort involves a group of students who enroll and progress through the graduate program together, creating a community in which they collaborate on projects and extend their support to one another.
Henrichs, a Wymore native, has been a fourth grade teacher at Auburn Public Schools for the past five years where he has also coached middle school football, high school football, high school basketball and legion baseball. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Peru State and an Associate of Science degree from Cloud County Community College.
Dean of Graduate Programs Dr. Greg Seay said, “Obtaining a Master’s degree is the new standard for those teaching in public schools across Nebraska and our surrounding states. Peru State recognizes the importance of this advanced level and continues to support teachers by offering a program that specializes in mastery teaching. The impact of the Boxley Scholarship is life changing and our recipients are always thrilled to have the financial support in their pursuit of advancing their careers. They are setting a great example for students by practicing what they preach and continuing their education.”
President Dan Hanson said, “The financial benefit of this scholarship cannot be overstated. It can make all the difference for professional educators who want to increase their knowledge and skills by pursuing an advanced degree. I want to congratulate Michael on receiving this prestigious honor and thank Peru State alum Mr. Ken Boxley for his generosity.”
Boxley, of Beverly Hills, Calif., is chairman of the Board of the American Asian Association, Inc., a long distance telephone company linking the continental United States with several countries in Asia.
