(NRN)-- Everyone is warned to be cautious as they donate any dollars to relief efforts following last weekend's devastating earthquake in Nepal. Consumer advocate Bill Brauch says he hasn't heard of any scams in the region -yet- that involve Nepal relief, but it's likely some will crop up in the coming days.
If you want to help, Brauch says to donate dollars -- not clothing or other items -- as charities can make the money go much further with bulk buying of drinking water and other needed emergency supplies. If you want to donate money to Nepal relief , stick with trusted, established agencies like the Red Cross or UNICEF.
Millions of people were impacted by the seven-point-eight magnitude earthquake, including tens of thousands left homeless, six-thousand injured and at least 5-thousand dead. One report estimates the death toll may reach ten-thousand.
