(KLZA) Kathy Bartek, who was serving her seventh term as a member of the Falls City Board of Education died Sunday as a result of ALS, at the age of 55.
Kathy Bartek was born in Beatrice. She was a Beatrice High School graduate and graduated from the University of Nebraska as a Registered Nurse in 1978.
Bartek earned the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association “School Board Member of the Year” Award in 2013 and in 2012 she received the Ann Mactier Leadership Award. She was also honored with the Robert Chab “Community Service Award” by the Falls City Area Jaycees.
She counted as one of the highlights of her career on the District 56 Board, helping pass the bond issue to renovate Falls City High School.
In addition to her work on the District 56 Board, Bartek also served as President of the Nebraska Association of School Boards.
Professionally she was a nurse having retired form Community Medical Center after 16 years of service, which included stints in the surgery department, serving as the diabetic education nurse and working with infants in the Good Beginnings Program. She also previously worked as a nurse at the Humboldt Hospital and was the school nurse for Peru State College.
In addition, Bartek was a Bible School teacher and Sunday School teacher at the Christ Lutheran Church in Falls City.
Funeral services for Bartek will be 10:30 Friday morning at the Christ Lutheran Church in Falls City.
