(KAIR) -- A property tax rebate program offered by Atchison County is up for renewal this year and was one of the key items of discussion among officials at the second annual Countywide Summit Thursday evening in Lancaster.
The Neighborhood Revitalization Program must be renewed by County Commissioners by the end of October.
Don Ball, a member of the revitalization committee, says the program provides an incentive for new construction or renovation of property for those that apply in advance.
Ball credited the Brookdale area in Atchison as a prime example of development and progress under the program.
The other key issue from the summit was the presentation of a proposed tipping fee by the Solid Waste Advisory Committee.
That would replace the current solid waste fee on property taxes on January 1.
County Commission Chariman Jeff Schuele recently said the County Commission would begin discussion on the solid waste committee proposal next week.
