(KTNC) - The Falls City School District will be losing a significant portion of its state aid, based on the compromise school finance bill passed by the Nebraska Legislature this spring.
In his report to the board Monday night, Superintendent Tim Heckenlively said state aid for District 56 in the next school year was certified at $825,203 – a reduction of nearly 49-percent from the 2012-13 school year. He said Class B and Class C-1 schools were the biggest losers in the state aid formula this year.
Heckenlively said the argument is made that districts like Falls City are able to meet expenses without bumping up against the levy limit, while many larger districts are at the levy cap. A committee is being formed to review the state aid formula.
In other business, the board approved a teacher contract with Karen Boatright to be a 6th grade teacher in the upcoming school year, and a motion to amend Cindy Kopf’s contract to part-time.
