(KAIR) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to restore shallow water habitat on the Missouri River just north of Atchison.
The proposed project, which would involve the construction of two side chutes, will take place on the Corps’ Benedictine Bottoms Missouri River Bank Stabilization and Navigation Fish and Wildlife Mitigation Site.
The project would assist the Corps in meeting habitat goals on the Missouri River.
The Corps says a loss of habitat has led to serious declines in native fish and wildlife populations.
The Corps will hold an open house public meeting for the project on Friday, May 17, from 2:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon at the U.S.D. 409 Community Meeting Room in Atchison.
