(KTNC) - Work is continuing on an ordinance covering the replacement of sidewalks in Mound City.
City Attorney Brian Tubbs told the City Council last week that he is drafting the ordinance and it should be ready for consideration in January. The proposed ordinance will call for five-foot wide sidewalks, whether they are newly constructed or replacing existing sidewalks. Tubbs suggested that new subdivisions be required to include sidewalks as a covenant in their deeds so potential buyers are aware of the requirements.
The ground is also being laid for legislation that would allow Mound City to implement a hotel-motel tax.
Mayor Chris Krueger and City Clerk Patsy Smith said they spoke with State Representative Mike Thompson and his staff regarding the legislation, which should be filed in January.
The council decided to not present a Use Tax issue to city voters at this time. A streetlight tax levy, which has to be approved every four years, will be on the April ballot. The old streetlight tax levy expired this year.
