The Falls City Board of Education approved compensation for the four District 56 Principals following an executive session Monday evening. The board approved a base salary increase of 2.58-percent for all four principals for the next school year.
That sets the compensation at $90,302 for High School Principal Gale Dunkhas, $90,000 for Middle School Principal Rick Johnson, $77,235 for South School Principal and District Special Education Coordinator JP Holys, and $76,720 for North School Principal and District Assessment Director Ernie Valentine.
The board also accepted the resignation of one teacher and approved contracts with three new teachers. The board accepted the resignation of Middle and High School Band Teacher Elliot Crouch.
Contracts were approved with Synneve Yoder to be a 2nd grade teacher and assistant high school volleyball coach. Kent Stutheit was hired as the High School and Middle School Band Director. And Wanda Biel was hired as a part-time Middle School Spanish teacher.
On another teacher-related move, the board approved the recommendation from Superintendent Tim Heckenlively to leave the substitute teacher pay rate at $105 per day for the upcoming school year. That’s the same rate as last year and Heckenlively said it's competitive with other area school districts. The board also set a prorated hourly rate of $14 per hour, based on a 7.5-hour day, for classified substitutes beginning in the next school year.
And in other action Monday, the Falls City School Board approved the second and final reading on several revised policies. Those policies pertain to bullying, certified employee evaluations, concussion awareness, admissions, equal opportunity in education, the family medical leave act, Internet and computer access, and title one parent involvement. The board approved the first reading of a revised attendance policy.
