County Courthouse Elevator Project to Resume
05/31/2012

After a short delay, the Atchison County Courthouse ADA elevator renovation project will continue next week.

Architects, grant bearers and contractors met with Commissioners on Wednesday for a monthly progress report.

County Commissioner Jeff Schuele says the delay only put progress behind a short amount.

At that point, the east doors to the courthouse will once again be closed to the public for most of the project.

Commissioners are also considering issuing conduit financing for Maur Hill Mount Academy for energy efficiency upgrades.

Schuele explains that this is similar to when the county issued educational revenue bonds for Benedictine College.

They will take the matter up after review by the County Counselor.

The board also signed off permission for Emergency Preparedness Director Wes Lanter to apply for a 40 to 50 thousand dollar PMG grant.

They got an update from GIS Tech Tony Redden on flood plain mapping.

Redden told Commissioners his department plans to re-classify the maps in Leavenworth and Atchison Counties for the first time since 1977 at no cost to the county.
