The Pothole Patrol is on the prowl in northwest Missouri. The Missouri Department of Transportation says crews will be out patching as many potholes as possible over the next two weeks in the entire 20-county northwest Missouri area.
According to Mo-DOT Northwest District maintenance and Traffic Engineer Marty Liles, the warmer weather has allowed crews to get out a little earlier than normal to get out and patch as many potholes as possible.
He says the warm winter has allowed Mo-DOT crews to do a lot more maintenance work on roadway shoulders, drainage areas, and culverts. They’ve also been able to cut some brush and patch a few potholes. That extra work has allowed the department to get a head of the curve in improving the driving surface of area roadways, and beginning overlay projects, sooner than they would under normal circumstances.
Liles says they patch potholes during the winter normally, but the patch doesn’t last long when there’s too much moisture. He says the drier it is, the longer the patching will last.
