(KLZA)-- The price for breakfast and lunch for Falls City Public School students is going up. The School Board approved a nickel increase for each meal when they met Monday night. Superintendent Tim Heckinlively reported the USDA continues to implement the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act requiring school meal programs to serve more fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. The Falls City meal program experienced an increase in food costs this past school year.
Staffing updates were also provided. Susan Witt and Amber Ramer have accepted positions as Home Visiting Specialists with the Sixpence Program. Amanda Merz has accepted the High School Office Assistant position and Jenny Bauman will be serving as a part-time Tile I teacher and a para educator.
Superintendent Heckinlively updated Board members on the North School parking lot expansion and 26th Street indent. The area where parents can drop off children for the Parent Child Center is being enlarged. In addition an island on the north side of the faculty parking lot has been removed which will create more off street parking.
With a new school year staring in less than a month, that means it is once again time to develop a budget for the next fiscal year. Heckinlively has a draft of the budget completed, but the property valuations are not certified until August 20th. A budget workshop for Board members has been set for August 31st.
Summer projects competed include the High School parking lot concrete expansion and the Middle School HVAC re-piping.
