(KLZA)-- The Falls City Board of Education met in closed session Monday evening to discuss contracts for the District 56 principals.
Following the closed session the Board voted to approved contracts for the 2015-16 school year for High School Principal Gale Dunkhas, Middle School Principal Rick Johnson, and Elementary School Principals J.P. Holys and Shawn Emerson. Compensation will be set at a later time.
During the meeting the Board approved a number of policy revisions.
Elementary teacher Kris Ogle presented a report, on a meeting she attended in Atlanta earlier this school year concerning poverty. Ogle used personal time to attend the program to learn how to better serve students she may have from an impoverished situation. She called it an eye opening experience.
High School Principal Gale Dunkhas noted during his report that this years National Honor Society induction will be held Monday, March 16 at 7 p-m in the High School gymnasium. 21 new members will be inducted. A reception for member and guests will follow in the High School commons area.
Dunkhas also provided the annual update on the Falls City Alternative School located in the 1700 block of Stone Street. Currently there are 10 students in the Alternative School, which has a mission to provide an opportunity for students to gain knowledge, skills and attitudes to complete their high school education, pursue post-secondary education, or enter the workforce.
Including this years 10 students, since 2010 the Alternative School has served 52 students and 32 have graduated with three more on pace to graduate this spring.
