Falls City School Board Holds Required Hearings
07/09/2013

(KTNC) - The Falls City Board of Education held very brief, required, public hearings Monday night on several policies.
The policies include several No Child Left Behind policies, and those pertaining to student fees, nutrition and wellness, expenses and reimbursements, bullying, Internet access, and early separation.
There were no changes to any of the policies, other than a 25-cent increase in the cost of adult meal prices in the coming year.
The board received no public input on the policies Monday night, and they took no action on the policies following the hearings.
The board did approve the final reading of two policy revisions, pertaining to Internet access and Internet safety.  They also approved the first reading of policies pertaining to the evaluation of certified employees and evaluation of principals and administrators.
The board also approved the final Student Handbooks and District Calendar for the 2013-2014 school year.
Superintendent Tim Heckenlively told the board that they are beginning to build a budget for the next year.  He says while they do have some preliminary budget estimates, August 20th is the key date, when property tax valuation will be certified.
Heckenlively also said they are beginning to look at lawn mowers to replace the district’s primary mower, which was purchased in 1999 and will need to be replaced in the next year.
Summer maintenance projects completed to date include a turf maintenance program, track resurfacing, and tuck-pointing at Jug Brown Stadium; new doors at North School, South School, and the High School; ceiling tile replacement at North School; and concrete replacement in the High School parking lot.
